Alessandra Akiwumi is a multi-disciplinary artist (b. 1996) based in London, UK. She predominately works as an analog photographer and writer. Her photographic projects span from editorial to alternative processes. Solely working with analog film, Akiwumi invites the viewer to engage with images differently through her treatment of the negative.

Always having been writing on the side, Akiwumi recently brought text work to the center of her practice. Currently working on two text based projects, she uses her photography as an initial starting point and inspiration. Bringing pieces of her own past in the story, she weaves together faint memories and dreams to create a constructed reality, one that mirrors that of the constructed realities of phantasmagoria.

Both her photographic work and text based work explore the push and pull between the real and the imagined and transport the viewer to a new world.

Recently, Akiwumi has worked on numerous visual projects for musicians signed to international labels and has started an independent publishing house.
